The Snowy Mountain Scheme, one of the greatest engineering projects undertaken in Australian history, is widely recognised as the birthplace of successful multiculturism in Australia. A set of stamps are issued to commemorate the 50th anniversary of this scheme in 1999. The stamps feature a driller at the Burn's Creek and workers engaging in rock bolting in the Tumut 2 Power Station Hall, an English class for migrant workers in Cooma, the Tumut 2 Tailwater Tunnel and the Eucumbene Dam as well as a group of German carpenters and the Island Bend dam.
