2001 marks 100 years since the first Australian wintered in the Antarctic, and Australia Post issued a set of 20 stamps to commemorate Australia's history in the Antarctic over the last century. The stamps feature Australia's experience in this area across four main time frames and themes – discovery from 1901 to 1911 (5c), exploration from 1911 to 1931 (10c), settlement and science from 1948 to 1969 (25c) as well as technology and communication from 1970 to 2001 (45c).
