This is the first set of stamps issued by Hongkong Post after Hong Kong was returned to China on 1 Jul 1997, after 156 years of British rule. The stamps design features the Chinese architecture (HK$1.30), Hong Kong Bank and vehicles (HK$1.60), Hong Kong skyscrapers and Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HK$2.50), port and cargo ship (HK$2.60), Chinese junk and dolphins (HK$3.10) as well as the Bauhinia x blakeana, commonly known as the Hong Kong Orchid (HK$5.00).
