Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj was born at the Istana Tiga Tingkat in Alor Setar, Kedah on 8 Feb 1903. He was the 7th child of Sultan Abdul Hamid, the 25th ruler of the Kedah Sultanate. His efforts in freeing the country from being ruled further by the British were finally accomplished, with Malaya achieving its independence on the historic day of 31 Aug 1957. Tunku Abdul Rahman passed away in 1990 at the age of 87 years old. 2003 marked 100 years of the birth of this important key figure in the history of Malaysia. The stamps in this issue features four different portraits of the late Tunku Abdul Rahman.
