Australians have long been enthusiastic gardeners. Cultivar is a cultivated variety developed by selectively breeding in order to enhance or minimise traits common to other members of its species. The cultivars in this stamp issue were specifically bred to produce spectacular blooms on hardy, disease resistant plants suitable for home cultivation. The five Australian flower cultivars featured are "Hari Withers" Camellia, "Victoria Gold" Rose, "Superb" Grevillea, "Bush Tango" Kangaroo Paw and "Midnight" Rhododendron.
