Turtles are living dinosaur and their evolutionary history as sea-dwelling reptiles extends back about 90 million years. There are seven species of sea turtles, of which four of these have been sighted at Cocos. This stamp issue features these four species of sea turtles – the loggerhead turtle, hawksbill turtle, leatherback turtle and the green turtle.
