The North Keeling Island, a single horseshoe-shaped atoll, supports a number of birds that feed on the small crustaceans that dominate the shoreline ecology. This stamp issue of four stamps depicts a single shoreline scene with four birds found on the shore of a North Keeling Island lagoon – the Eastern Reef Egret, Sooty Tern, Ruddy Turnstone and the Whimbrel.
