Naval captains, Nicolas Baudin and Matthew Flinders, crossed path on 8 Apr 1802 at Encounter Bay, near the South Australian coast during their voyages of discovery to Australia, then New Holland. The Australian stamps feature a portrait of Baudin, a painting of a kangaroo and the French map of the Encounter Bay (45c) as well as a portrait of Flinders, a painting of the Port Lincoln parrot and Flinders' map of Australia (AU$1.50). The French stamps feature the two ships – Investigator (€0.46) and GĂ©ographe (€0.79), both against a map of Australia.
