Hobart was founded in 1804 as a British penal colony, and this marked the beginning of European Settlement of Tasmania. This stamp issue by Australia Post commemorates the Feb 1804 Settlement of Hobart Town, with a set of four stamps featuring the Cheshunt House (50c), a shell necklace (50c), a photograph on mountains upon mountains in Southwest Tasmania (AU$1.00) as well as Mount Wellington and Hobart Town from Kangaroo Point (AU$1.00). The necklace Thalotia conica is used as a linking element between the four stamps.
