The Eureka Stockade was the climax of several years of dissatisfaction on the Victorian goldfields and a growing desire for more representative and responsible government. It has become a symbol of democratic protest and Australia's national identity. This stamp issue commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Eureka event in 2004 and features the Eureka Flag (50c) and an image of Peter Lalor, the man who led the diggers at the stockade (AU$2.45).
