Many fabulous posters were designed from the 1920s, advertising the delight of ocean travel. During that time, Australia was a destination of travel for many, while Australians were also increasingly travelling abroad. The stamps in this issue draw on stylish artwork from some of these original advertising posters, to evoke the romance and excitement of ocean travel. The posters featured in the stamps advertise the following ships – the Dominion Monarch of Shaw Savill Lines (50c), the Awatea of Union Steam Ship Company (AU$1.00), the Ormonde & Orsova of Orient Line (AU$1.45) and The Bay Ships of Aberdeen & Commonwealth Line (AU$2.00).
