International grand prix motorcycle racing came to Australia in 1989, when the revamped Phillip Island circuit in Victoria first hosted a round of the FIM Road Racing World Championship. In the years since, many Australian riders have made their mark in grand prix racing in Australia and internationally. The stamps in this issue uses images of five motorcycle riders who have made their mark in grand prix racing in Australia and internationally to portray the excitement of grand prix motorcycle racing – Mick Doohan, Wayne Gardner, Troy Bayliss, Daryl Beattie and Garry McCoy.
