Rotary International is a world-wide movement devoted to community and humanitarian service. The Rotary movement began on 23 Feb 1905 in Chicago by founder Paul Harris, a lawyer. Rotary's commitment to community service began with its first project – a public lavatory. To commemorate Rotary's centenary in 2005, Australia Post issued a 50c stamp featuring the organisation's colour of blue and gold, with a figure standing on the symbolic wheel, holding up the globe. This symbolises Rotary's commitment to improve lives around the world.
