The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games were held from 8 to 24 Aug 2008. Commemorating this international sporting event, this set of commemorative stamps features three sports representative of Australia's participation at the Beijing Olympics – basketball (50c), cycling (AU$1.30) and gymnastics (AU$1.35). The number eight, being an auspicious number for the Chinese, has been incorporated into the stamp design. The Games commenced at 8 pm on the eighth day of the eighth month of 2008 – indeed auspiciously eight!
