This history of Australian rock posters is also the story of the relationship between graphic design and Australian popular music. Posters played an important role in promoting rock music concerts and events around Australia and have earned high acclaim for their designs. This stamp issue presents some of the most famous Australian rock music poster designs – Sunbury Rock Festival (1972), Magic Dirt (2002), The Masters Apprentices (1969), Goanna's Spirit of Place (1983), Angels with Special Guests : Sports, Paul Kelly & The Dots (1979), Midnight Oil (1979), Big Day Out (2003), Apollo Bay Music Festival (1999), Rolling Stones Australian Tour (1973) and Mental as Anything (1990). These stamps highlight the impact that graphic design has had on this art – "psychedelic" style in Masters Apprentices, the style popular at that time; while recent posters that has been digitally produced, as represented by Big Day Out tour poster.
