In general, there are over 1,000 species of butterflies in Malaysia. Butterflies feed primarily on nectar from flowers and play an important ecological role as one of the major agents of pollination. The graceful flight and diverse patterns formed by their brightly coloured wings have made butterfly watching a popular hobby. This set of stamps in this issue features four species of butterflies in Malaysia – the Smaller Wood Nymph (30 sen), Malayan Lacewing (30 sen), Malay Red Harlequin (50 sen) and the Glorious Begum (RM1.00).
