Apr 2008 marks 100 years since competition for the first New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) Premiership commenced. While rugby football has been played in Australia since the 1860s, it was only in 1908 that Rugby League, Australia's first professional football code, was established. Celebrating this centenary milestone, a set of sixteen stamps was released, each stamp featuring one of the 16 teams that played in the National Rugby League competition in 2008 – Bulldogs, Titans, Cowboys, Broncos, Sharks, Knights, Sea Eagles, Storm, Dragons, Eels, Roosters, Raiders, Wests Tigers, Warriors, Rabbitohs and Panthers.
