The Kedah Malay Sultanate is the oldest Sultanate in Malaysia. His Royal Highness Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah was installed officially as the 28th Ruler of the State of Kedah in 1959. This stamp issue, to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the reign of HRH Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah in 2008, features His Royal Highness against backgrounds of different eras – the colonial era, with padi fields, old Alor Star town and the Zahir Mosque in the background (30 sen); the old state secretary's office and Jalan Teluk Wanjah Fountain in the background, depicting the state's development under his rule (50 sen); as well as an illustration of modern-day Alor Star (RM1.00).
