Anzac Day, which falls on 25 Apr, is considered by many as Australia's most important national occasion. This day marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during World War I. The soldiers in these forces quickly became known as the Anzacs – Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. This stamp issue seeks to capture the face of Australia on Anzac Day, as they commemorate the lives of those that were lost in times of service to their country. The stamps feature images of war veterans, laying of wreaths at monuments, playing of the Last Post, war veteran and a child, as well as young people at Gallipoli. Each of the stamps includes a line from The Ode, which is synonymous with the spirit and meaning of Anzac Day in Australia.
