Astrology has fascinated people for thousands of years, from ancient philosophers to the readers of today's newspapers who check their daily horoscopes. The history of astrology goes back to ancient Babylon, where people first noticed that cosmic phenomena were related to the seasons, and planned harvests and predicted weather through their observations of the stars. What was essentially a farmer's calendar became an instrument for predicting future events. The twelve stamps in this issue, one stamp for each zodiac sign, are designed to be fun and interesting, hence the rather quirky and colourful designs.
