The South China Sea contains fascinating and mysterious marine species that descended from ancient fish-like creatures of the Ordovician period some 480 million years ago. Some of these species have evolved into weird and wonderful shapes as well as colours that they hardly look like fish. This joint issue between Pos Malaysia and Brunei Postal Services features two of these unique and fascinating marine species – the Orangestriped Triggerfish and the Leaf Scorpionfish. The equivalent stamps are issued by Brunei Postal Services at a denomination of 60 sen.

This stamp issue was supposed to be released on 21 Dec 2006, however due to the late approval from Brunei Postal Services, it was only released in Feb 2007. The wording "2006" was printed on the stamps; the first day issue cancellation was dated 6 Feb 2007.
