Originally, the primary roles for domestic dogs were in guarding the home and livestock, and in hunting. As man's best friend, our canine friends have since developed to meet our own needs and enable us to take advantage of the intelligence and natural instincts unique to these animals. This stamp issue features five working dogs and the role they fulfill – German Shepherd as police dog, Australian Cattle Dog as herder in the farm, Beagle as quarantine detector dog, Border Collie as sheep dog and Labrador as guide dog for the blind.
