This special stamp issue of ten stamps celebrates 200 years of postal services in Australia. In 1809, Isaac Nichols became the first postmaster of New South Wales; however, Australia's first postman was only appointed in 1828. Postal services continued to grow along with the population and were vital to the development of the major cities, towns and regional communities. Reflecting the contribution postal services have made to the everyday lives of Australians since its inception, the stamps in this issue feature the first postmaster, an early post office, an early postbox, receiving news from home, early airmail services, home delivery, post-war immigration, a retail post shop, express post and a mail delivery truck.
