Similar to prior years' Christmas stamp issue, 2009 Christmas stamp issue by Australia Post again shows scenes from the religious story of the Nativity – the Virgin Mary tenderly cradling Baby Jesus (50c) as well as the three Magi or Wise Men, Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar, offering precious gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to the Christ Child (AU$1.25). The stamp design uses a symmetrical approach and a retro style, utilising rhythmic linear shapes that add dimension and texture to each of the stamps, thus giving them a modern, clean and highly colourful stamps, reflecting the joyful celebration of the festive season.
