Engineering has been an integral part in the development of many nations. Great strides have been made in the development of Malaysia ever since its independence in 1957. Closely associated with the nation's progress is The Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), established in 1959. As the prime mover of nation building, IEM have strived to promote sound professional engineering practice amongst its members and enhance sound professional engineering practices. This stamp issue highlights the role of engineering towards nation building in the past and present, in various sectors – telecommunication and power (30 sen se-tenant, top), transportation and port (30 sen se-tenant, bottom) as well as the building of road, bridge and dam (50 sen se-tenant).
