Born 12 Aug 1932, H.M. Queen Sirikit is the queen consort of Bhumibol Adulyadej, King (Rama IX) of Thailand. H.M. Queen Sirikit was appointed Queen Regent in 1956. Thailand Post issued a set of commemorative stamps in 2012 to celebrate Her Majesty's 80th birthday. The 5 baht stamps elegantly feature portrait drawings of Her Majesty at every ten years of her life. In addition, the special design 40 baht stamp features a side portrait of Her Majesty wearing tiara, with pearl effect ink and embossing technique as well as 22 karat gold embossed on the stamp texts. Blue colour is also used in the stamp – according to Buddhist/Hindu tradition, blue is associated with Friday, which is the birth day of the Queen.
