This stamp issue highlights some of Australian inventions that have gone toward identifying their unique Australian culture. Several of these inventions were part of a post-war development boom that centred on suburban housing, and the backyard was the amphitheatre in which they took centre stage. The inventions highlighted in this stamp issue include the Esky and Wine Cask, the Hills Hoist (a modern rotary clothes hoist), Speedos and the zinc cream, Ute and B&D Roll-A-Door, as well as the Victa rotary lawnmower.
