The younger generation of Malaysian youth will know Lat as the creator of the 26-episode animation series, Kampung Boy, which was published in 1979 and is very popular ever since it was shown on television in 1998. On the other hand, the older generation knows Lat since the 1960s when he became the cartoonist for Berita Minggu newspaper. This stamp issue by Pos Malaysia, in conjunction with 2008 Stamp Week in Malaysia, features the Kampung Boy; kampung kids riding the upih pinang (pinang frond), which is a traditional home-made game; Mrs. Hew, being Lat's iconic strict teacher; as well as the Town Boy.
