His Royal Highness Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah was installed officially as the 34th Ruler of the State of Perak in 1985. HRH was the ninth Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia from 26 Apr 1989 to 25 Apr 1994. This stamp issue, to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of the reign of HRH Sultan Muhibbuddin Shah in 2009, features a portrait of HRH during the installation as the 34th Sultan of Perak on 9 Dec 1985, against a background showing HRH kissing the ceremonial sword Pedang Cura Si Manja Kini, symbolising the regal splendour of the ceremony (30 sen); a portrait of HRH as the Head of State and the Head of the State Islamic Religion and Custom, against a background featuring the grand and majestic architecture of Ubudiah Mosque (50 sen); as well as a portrait of HRH and the Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Bainun (RM1.00).
