Australia issues stamps for four out of seven of its external territories – the Australian Antarctic Territory, the Indian Ocean Territories, Cocos (Keeling) Islands and Christmas Island. An Australian first, this territories joint stamp issue includes all stamp-issuing Australian external territories as well as Australia. The stamps feature species of animal at risk and threat of extinction – the Bridled Nailtail Wallaby (55c Australia), N.I. Green Parrot (55c Norfolk Island), Subantarctic Fur Seal (55c Australian Antarctic Territory), C.I. Blue-tailed Skink (55c Christmas Island) and the Green Turtle (55c Cocos (Keeling) Islands). AAT, Cocos (Keeling) Islands and Christmas Island stamps are valid for postage in Australia; but Norfolk Island stamps are valid for postage in Norfolk Island only.
