Tuber plants or root crops are plants which produce subterranean structures that are used as human or animal foods. Root crops are the second most important source of carbohydrates found in food. These perennial plants have organs, which may be a root or a modified stem, that store plant nutrients. These swollen underground organs are commonly spoken of as tubers. The tuber plants featured in this stamp issue include sweet potato (30 sen), cassava or tapioca (30 sen), sengkuang or yam bean (50 sen), as well as yam (50 sen).
