This stamp issue commemorates MMC Corporation Berhad's (MMC) illustrious 100 years' milestone and it features one of Malaysia's most innovative projects, the SMART tunnel, built by MMC-Gamuda Joint Venture Sdn Bhd. SMART (Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel) is a project under the Federal Government initiated to alleviate the flooding problem in the city centre of Kuala Lumpur. This tunnel is believed to be the world's first underground double-storey motorway and water channel. The stamps feature images on the construction of the tunnel – tunnel-boring machine (TBM) at work (tunnel breakthrough and tunneling trough), the construction gantry and TBM after breaking through the south section of the tunnel; as well as interior of the road tunnel and pictorial illustration of schematic cross-section of a 3 km double-deck motorway.
