The Basic Law is a national law, also known as constitutional law and is the basic law of Macau. The Basic Law of Macau came into effect on 20 Dec 1999, the date when the People's Republic of China resumed the exercise of sovereignty over Macau. Under the principle of "one country, two systems", the socialist system and policies of the People's Republic of China would not be practiced in Macau. Instead, the Basic Law of Macau was enacted, prescribing the systems to be practiced in Macau. Macau Post issued a set of stamps to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the promulgation of the Basic Law of Macau in 2013. The stamps are illustrated in a unique comic style, showing the people of Macau holding the national and regional flags, with the festive scene in the square.
