A significant anniversary for Australians, 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the introduction of decimal currency. On 14 Feb 1966, decimal currency supplanted pounds, shillings and pence in Australia. The new currency fundamentally impacted everyday life, affecting individuals, businesses, community groups, government and everyone between. Commemorating this significant anniversary, the single stamp in this issue features the pre-decimal £1 note, and the decimal AU$1 note and coin. The then new decimal notes and coins feature bright, bold and airy designs depicting a diverse and inclusive Australia.
