This stamp issue, featuring endangered marine species, is the first of its kind ever produced by Pos Malaysia. Malaysia is essentially a maritime country, with some studies suggesting that 29 species of marine mammals have been observed in Malaysian waters. Excessive exploitation due to human behaviour and activities has led to the near extinction of many marine animals. This stamp issue aims to draw attention to the plight of some of these endangered marine mammals and features the Knifetooth Sawfish (60 sen), Blue Whale (80 sen) and the Killer Whale (RM1.40).
