The National Museum was first proposed by the first Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman. The construction of the building commenced in 1958, and completed in 1962. It was inaugurated on 31 Aug 1963 to coincide with the independence day of Federation of Malaya. Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the National Museum, this stamp issue features ten various museums in Malaysia – Perak Museum in Perak, National Museum in Kuala Lumpur, Lembah Bujang Museum in Kedah, Perdana Gallery in Kedah, Kota Kayang Museum in Perlis, Labuan Museum in Labuan, The Chimney Museum in Labuan, Sungai Lembing Museum in Pahang, Adat Museum in Negeri Sembilan and The Textile Museum in Kuala Lumpur. Notice the black stripe or band on the right side each stamp? Using thermochromic printing, when placed under the heat, it will reveal images underneath the thermionic ink. What images lie beneath?
