This stamp issue, on exquisite pearls, is the first time Pos Malaysia is issuing collectors' stamps portraying the uniqueness of South Sea pearls. South Sea pearls are recognised as the world's largest and most valuable pearls, compared to the other main group of pearl such as the Akoya pearls, Tahiti black pearls and freshwater pearls. The stamps feature the Circle South Sea Pearls (60 sen), Baroque South Sea Pearls (70 sen) and the Drop South Sea Pearls (80 sen), that are renowned worldwide as the most valuable pearls. These pearls are generally much larger than other pearls and have a unique lustre quality, commanding the highest price of all pearls.
