This stamp issue by Pos Malaysia is in conjunction with the centenary of the issuance of the first Kedah definitive stamps. The postal history of Kedah, according to philatelic experts, started in or around Apr 1887 to Oct 1887. During this period of about 25 years, Siamese stamps were used in Kedah for postage purposes. In 1912, the State of Kedah issued its own definitive stamps, which truly portray distinctive features of the state of Kedah. Using "stamp on stamp" design method, the stamps in this issue feature a sheaf of paddy from the old 1c design, a farmer ploughing the paddy field from the old 50c design and Balai Besar, a prominent building of Alor Star, from the old $5 design.
