First declared during the UPU Congress in Tokyo, Japan held in 1969, World Post Day has been celebrated on 9 Oct each year to commemorate the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland, as well as all the hard work and social contributions of the postal services worldwide. Many countries have their own way of celebrating World Post Day each year, and this includes issuing of commemorative stamps. This stamp issue by Pos Malaysia, to celebrate World Post Day 2015, features the official World Post Day 2015 logo, a symbolisation of two well-known icons of the postal and communication industry – the traditional letter morphing into a carrier pigeon taking flight.
