Commercial planting of oil palm in Malaysia began in 1917. Carried out by French planter, Henri Fauconnier, it was first commercially planted in Tennamaram (Tanah Maran) Estate in Batang Berjuntai (now known as Bestari Jaya), Selangor. Sime Darby Berhad now owns the plantation. Celebrating the 100th anniversary of oil palm industry in Malaysia, Pos Malaysia issued this set of palm oil-themed stamps to celebrate the many achievements of the oil palm industry. The stamps feature palm oil in the global scene with exports to more than 150 countries for the production of food and non-food products (60 sen), the technology and mechanisation that make the harvesting and collection of palm fruits more efficient (80 sen) as well as traditional methods to collect and transport palm fruits in the early years of the oil palm industry (RM1.00).
