Malaysia hosted the 2017 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 29th SEA Games and commonly known as Kuala Lumpur 2017, from 19 to 30 Aug 2017. This was the sixth time that Malaysia hosted the games and its first time since 2001. Commemorating this event, this stamp issue by Pos Malaysia consists of four stamps featuring the SEA Games 2017 official mascot RIMAU (an anthropomorphic Malayan tiger), Malaysia's iconic game Badminton, the Torch Run and the Games' official logo "Bangkit Bersama" ("Rising Together"). The logo is an image of Wau Bulan, a crescent-shaped kite traditionally popular on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, and it combines the Games' logo with 2017 ASEAN Para Games logo, to reflect the common relationship as parallel games of one another.
