World War II formally ended for Singapore on 12 Sep 1945. This stamp issue commemorates the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II in Singapore. Three-quarters of a century on, the nation has rebuilt itself dramatically, but the event of that significant era, from the surrender of the British-led forces to the Japanese capitulation in the last major surrender ceremony of World War II, are forever etched in the nation's consciousness. Each stamp in this issue features a scene from the events – British surrendering to Japanese forces on Feb 1942 (1st Local), British and Japanese forces at Japanese surrender ceremony (1st Local), Japanese signing the document of surrender on Sep 1945 (70c), crowd celebrating liberation of Singapore from Japanese rule (90c) and Lord Mountbatten proclaiming the end of war (S$1.15).
