Batik is a resist technique of patterning on cloth which uses wax as its dye resist. Usually produced in the East Coast states of Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang, batik designs are so unique that it appeals to not just residents of these states, but also to those residing in other parts of the country as well as tourists. Batik inspired stamps made its debut in Malaysia's stamps in 2005 – Malaysian Batik issued on 2 Dec 2005. Twelve years later, this stamp issue by Pos Malaysia in 2017 once again features Malaysian Batik, highlighting batik as one of the most important traditional handicrafts in Malaysia, featuring an even wider variety of designs, but never stepping away from its traditional designs – Block Batik (60 sen se-tenant), Canting Batik (80 sen se-tenant) and Tie & Dye Batik (90 sen se-tenant).
