9 Oct 2017 marks a new milestone for Singapore Post – the official opening of its brand new General Post Office (GPO) at the SingPost Centre. Melding heritage and modernity, the design of the new GPO is inspired by the rich and classical architecture of the GPO at Fullerton Building, while incorporating features that provide 24/7 access to essential services that fit the connected lifestyles of the digital age. This stamp issue, to commemorate the opening of the new GPO, features two scenes on each stamp, comparing the old and the new – post office of yesteryear and the brand new Philatelic Store @ GPO (1st Local), interior of the new GPO and post office from yesteryear (60c), design of the brand new GPO and the Fullerton Building (90c) as well as a mobile post office of yesteryear and the brand Philatelic Store @ GPO (S$1.30).
