Kingfishers are small to medium-sized birds, typically with bright-coloured plumage, large heads, long sharp bills, short legs and stubby tails. They fly rapidly, low over water, and hunt fish from riverside perches, occasionally hovering above the water's surface. This stamp issue by Singapore Post features four kingfisher species found in Singapore – the Black-capped Kingfisher (1st Local), Blue-eared Kingfisher (70c), Black-backed Kingfisher (90c) and the White-throated Kingfisher (S$1.30).
