The National Gallery Singapore, opened on 24 Nov 2015, aims to be a leading visual arts institution that engages, excites and inspires with the art of Singapore, Southeast Asia and the world. Situated in Singapore's Civic District, the Gallery consists of two national monuments, the former Supreme Court Building and City Hall. The Gallery focuses on displaying Singapore and Southeast Asian art from the 19th century to present day. This stamp issue commemorates the opening of this brand new museum, and features four of the masterpieces displayed in the Gallery – Drying Salted Fish by Cheong Soo Pieng, Pagodas II, Pago-Pago Series by Latiff Mohidin, National Language Class by Chua Mia Tee and Wounded Lion by Raden Saleh.
