Founded in 1859, the Singapore Botanic Gardens played an important role in fostering agricultural development in the region through collecting, growing, experimenting and distributing potentially useful plants. Since its establishment, it has continued to be a leading centre for plant science, research and conservation in Southeast Asia. It has also always been an integral part of Singapore's social and cultural heritage. The Singapore Botanic Gardens was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 4 Jul 2015, and is Singapore's first UNESCO World Heritage Site. Celebrating this milestone and the Garden's rich natural and cultural heritage, Singapore Post, in partnership with the National Parks Board (NParks), issued this set of stamps featuring some well-loved icons of the Gardens such as the gazebo at the Bandstand, Burkill Hall and Tanglin Gate.
