Before the introduction of biscuits from international brands such as Arnotts and Julie's, biscuits can be bought from the local provision shop often kept in big tin containers or at coffee shop in clear airtight containers. During celebrations, lovingly baked traditional biscuits or cookies are served to family and friends. Appreciating the rich diversity of cultures in Singapore, this stamp issue features some of these traditional Chinese, Malay and Indian delicacies – almond biscuit (1st Local), kueh bangkit (2nd Local), murukku (50c), kueh makmur (70c); as well as favourite childhood biscuits such as gem biscuit (90c) and cream cracker (S$1.30) that many Singaporeans grew up with in the 1980s.
