The goldfish or Carassius auratus is one of the world's most popular aquarium fishes, and can be found in a large variety of shapes, colours and sizes. Its history dates back more than a thousand years, to ancient China, when it was first bred for display in ornamental gardens. Until today, goldfishes are considered prized symbols of good luck and fortune. Contrary to the popularised image of a small goldfish in a round bowl, the common goldfish can grow to a length of more than 15 inches in the wild. Their popularity with aquarium hobbyists stems from the fact that they are inexpensive and relatively easy to upkeep. This set of definitive stamps by Singapore Post features nine different popular breed of goldfish – Ranchu (1st Local), Telescope Eye Pearlscale (1st Local), Red Cap Oranda (2nd Local), Tosakin (5c), Black Oranda (20c), Short Tail Ryukin (60c), Red Oranda (70c), Butterfly Tail (80c) and Bubble Eye (90c).
