Most Singaporeans today take radio and television for granted and cannot visualise a time when these media did not exist. Having said that, life was not all grey even for those who lived before the era of radio and television. The average man-in-the-street did not deny himself simple forms of relaxation after a hard day's work, and one of his favourites was listening to storytellers spin their yarns in the evenings. Taking a walk down Singapore's memory lane, this stamp issue artistically features these yesteryears entertainment, where people from different walks of life gather to relax, enjoy and foster a sense of community spirit – street story telling (1st Local), puppet show (70c), cinema on wheels (90c) and Bangsawan, a type of traditional Malay opera or theatre performed by a troupe (S$1.30).
